The National Library of New Zealand – Future Directions

Moata Tamaira and Penny Carnaby at Ōnuku MaraeThough Penny Carnaby, Chief Executive of Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa – The National Library of New Zealand and National Librarian mostly works from Wellington in her current role, she’s long been a Banks Peninsula dweller and has a house not too far away from Ōnuku.

Penny has also been a campaigner for biculturalism in libraries for many years and on day two of TRW 2010 gave an interesting talk on the future vision of her organisation, with particular reference to fully “embedding” a Māori dimension to everything that National Library does.

I managed to catch up with her afterwards (before she dashed off to her Banks Peninsula pad) and had a quick chat about the wero she laid down for the library profession:
