While New Brighton’s Saturday crowds might be a distant memory, it is still the premier spot in Christchurch for seaside attractions. Sometimes, Christchurch needs to reminded of them. Here are some websites to help steer library customers out to the beach, and to the action.
On Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 January 2011, the much loved World Buskers Festival line-up of local and international comedians and street performers will wow crowds. It will be an action-packed two days from 11am to 4pm.
The next big event will be the first ever New Zealand Sandcastle Competition 4 to 6 March. There will be sandcastle building competitions for corporate groups, kids and families as well as a ball, family fun day and sand drawing by Ukrainian Kseniya Simonov and New Brighton’s very own Peter Donnelly.
Just one week later from 10 to 13 March, Surf Life Saving continues to celebrate its 100th year by holding the National State Surf Life Saving Championships here in New Brighton where New Zealand’s first club was formed in 1910. Fifteen hundred athletes from 45 clubs will compete over the four days in a festival-like atmosphere.
